The hags of the Iron Oak Coven began flooding this acorn with their magic shortly after they made their deal with the Queen Below. Made of solid iron, it was once an “ordinary” acorn—at least, as ordinary as it can be as the seed of an iron tree. However, as the hags filled it with their magic, the Queen Below slowly manipulated it until it became a conduit for her iron oak to take their souls and become a mighty servant. Whether by the Queen’s design or simply a byproduct, the magical energies they poured into the acorn caused it to gain its own power, and, in a single act of revenge for the hate-filled coven, it could lead to the fall of the Queen Below.
While attuned to the acorn, you feel its psychic energies seeping into your mind as though it’s whispering to you. It’s all a disjointed murmur with no real purpose, but it is always present and appears to be the randomly combined thoughts of creatures around you. As an ability, you can try to still your mind to search through the whispers and find the thoughts of a single creature or plant that you can see within 30 feet. To push further it is similar to Detect Thoughts.
If the target is a plant, you can communicate with it as though you are under the effects of Speak with Plants.
When you first attune to the acorn, your abilities to use it are limited, and you can only use the acorn’s ability to probe the mind of a creature or plant once per day
When the acorn is within 60 feet of the other seven Vex’Mortem Fey court magic items, you automatically gain expert affinity, even if you do not already meet the prerequisites. Additionally, the DC to resist the mental probe effect of the acorn increases to 17.
The iron shell gleams with a cold, metallic sheen, its acorn shape etched by veins of whispering frost that pulse like trapped veins. Faint murmurs emanate from within, disjointed echoes of nearby thoughts brushing against your skin like spider silk. Attuned, psychic tendrils seep into your mind, cold and insistent, unraveling secrets from creatures and plants in a haze of stolen whispers.
