Before Fort Sorrow’s construction, a grove of sentient weeping willows occupied the area. This race of trees was known for their peaceful nature and renowned healing skills. However, taking delight in their suffering, the Vex’Mortem Fey set about felling the grove, and as they did so, they collected their tears. Then, as part of the dedication ceremony of the newly constructed bastion of evil, the Queen Below refined the tears into one large vial, which she entrusted to the lieutenant she placed in charge of Fort Sorrow.

Growing Affinity.

The Diplomat can use the vial with expert efficiency due to his special affinity with it. However, when you attune to it for the first time, you have only Basic Affinity. When you reach certain milestones, your affinity with the chalice grows, increasing its power (must be completed in order):

Attune to the Chalice (Basic Affinity).

You gain the vial’s base powers and learn how to grow your affinity with it. You must reach each subsequent affinity level in order (you cannot benefit from gaining master-level affinity before gaining the expert level).

Remain Attuned for One Week (Intermediate Affinity).

Once you maintain continuous attunement with the vial for at least 1 week, the duration of calm emotions you cast using the vial increases to 10 minutes, and the DC increases to 15.

Calm 25 Emotions (Expert Affinity).

If you cast calm emotions on twenty-five distinct groups of creatures in a meaningful way—that is, not simply spamming the spell to gain this level of affinity—the duration of calm emotions cast from the vial increases to 1 hour, and the DC increases to 17.

Attune to a Second Charm of the Queen Below at the Same Time (Master Affinity).

You unlock the healing properties of the vial. As an action, you can cast mass healing word once per day. If your attunement to the second charm ends for any reason, you lose this affinity level.

Set Bonus.

When the vial is within 60 feet of the other seven Charms of the Queen Below, you automatically gain expert affinity, even if you have not completed the tasks to reach it, and you can cast calm emotions from the vial up to three times per day. You also gain the benefits of the Healer feat as long as you are attuned to the vial and within 60 feet of the other charms.
