Difficult Terrain
Terrain Type

You move at half speed in difficult terrain— moving 1 foot in Difficult Terrain costs 2 feet of speed—so you can cover only half the normal distance, usually with a Walking Speed .

The Game Master can determine if a space is Difficult Terrain for a creature if the space contains any of the following ideas:

  1. Creature that isn’t Tiny
  2. Furniture that is Small or larger
  3. Heavy snow
  4. Heavy undergrowth
  5. Ice
  6. Liquid that’s between shin- and waist-deep (any deeper and you need to Swim)
  7. Narrow opening that is sized for a creature one Size smaller
  8. Pit or another gap of 2–5 feet
  9. Rubble
  10. Slope of 20 degrees or more
